A School in Africa
A new century brought bright beginnings. The Street family started a school on their coffee estate in 2001, after making and laying each brick by hand. The overwhelming need for education in their rural farming district prompted them to open two grade one classes for the children of those who worked on their farm. Seven classes later, a preschool and 210 children now occupy the schoolhouses where several teachers and a headmaster also preside. It's called Terranova School.
Woodward Academy in Atlanta GA, has adopted Terranova School in a sister school program which will help provide Terranova School with much needed text books, computers and reading materials. Teachers will have the opportunity to visit and work with each other learning new ways of growing, teaching and building. Rollover images at the bottom to view the gallery of school photos.
